Video Interview Setup Tips & Tricks
Be sure to read all instructions to assist you with completing your interview.
You will need EITHER a smartphone with video capabilities or computer with webcam, speakers and microphone (usually built in) plus a high speed Internet connection. Most importantly, we can’t stress enough the need to test your equipment well in advance of your video interview.
This way you can ensure that you make a good first impression. Here’s what you do:
- Please make sure any other open camera programs, including Skype, are closed.
- Be sure you’re lighting is great, you are in a quiet location and there isn’t anything distracting in your background! Avoid any auditory distractions such as TV, barking dog or a crying child.
- Please ensure that the camera is eye-level. Look directly into the camera, wear interview attire, and speak into the camera as if you are talking to an interviewer.
- Lastly, you will be prompted to give hireiqinc.net access to your camera. You must click ‘Allow’ to continue in the video interview process.
You are required to answer questions that appear in written format. Once you are ready, read the interview question and click the “Record Your Video” button to capture your response. There will be a 3 second countdown. You will be given 3 opportunities to record your video. You can play back and re-record up to 3 times.
After 3 attempts, your recording will be saved. Click the ‘Stop’ button when you are satisfied with your response. Once you have answered all questions, click the ‘Submit’ button to submit your video responses.
Camera Help
If you don't see yourself on the screen while working through the video interview setup try to following steps to get your camera working.
- Make sure your webcam software is closed. If you have another program open on your computer that is using the webcam Interview4 will not be able to access the webcam. Once you close your webcam software refresh the webpage and work through the interview setup again.
- If you are using Google Chrome for your browser make sure you have allowed Google Chrome to access your camera. In addition to allowing Flash Player to access your camera Google Chrome requires you allow it to access the camera as well. Look at the top of your Chrome screen. Do you see an info bar like the one below? Click Allow on the info bar. You may need to refresh the webpage and work through the interview setup again.
- If you have more than one webcam on your system, make sure flash player is using the right camera. Right click anywhere inside the blue interview box and a menu will appear. Click "Settings". An Adobe Flash Player Settings window will open. At the bottom of the window there are several tabs. Click on the tab that looks like a webcam.
